Yellow with age and freckled with paint, this hung for many years in the basement studio of Brendan Somerville, a family friend who lived in Vienna, Virginia. Somerville was a chemist as well as a painter and poet born and educated in Ireland who came to the States with his wife Betty and two daughters in 1963. He passed away at the age of 79 on January 28, 2008.

Betty gave this to me on my twenty-first birthday.

It now hangs in my studio in Chicago.
